Colorado’s Smart City Challenges Announced

By December 11, 2019Blog

These are the issues that unite us. Let’s be united in our search for solutions.

WHAT NOW?

After nearly two years of research and analysis with fifteen Colorado cities, our Discovery process has found the issues motivating governments to be more innovative. These six issues are challenging cities from Grand Junction to Denver and throughout the state, often fueled by the pressures of rapid growth. If left unchecked, these issues will continue to degrade the quality of life throughout our state. The reasons that people love Colorado will be eclipsed with reasons to leave.

These challenges are deeply complex, regional in their roots, and will require a new level of collaboration, ingenuity and risk tolerance to solve. The Colorado Smart Cities Alliance is the only statewide marketplace for tackling these challenges across jurisdictions and sectors, and we’re excited to launch a new platform in 2020 to accelerate the generation and testing of solutions to these problems.

In 2020, the Alliance will begin seeking submissions from across our smart cities network that provide innovative ideas for solving these problems differently. Cities from all over the state will be given the tools to evaluate ideas, locate willing partners and find the right proving ground together. Businesses with good ideas will have a central place to seek partners willing to innovate. Research and academia will have a mechanism for engaging in real-world testing and deployment. Governments will be able to showcase a problem and seek the art of the possible, and we can all collaborate with each other to replicate or scale what works and avoid recreating the wheel.

Our powerful network of innovators, and this new tool, will attract ideas, investment, and talent to Colorado from all over the world. We are building the foundation for collective action on the most pressing issues of our time, and we couldn’t be more excited about the solutions our Alliance can generate.

Submissions will open in February of 2020, starting first with Alliance members only. Contact tyler@coloradosmart.city for more information on how to get involved.
