Colorado Smart Cities Alliance’s municipal member, the City of Aurora, has just begun an eight-month planning process to develop a long-term vision, framework and short-term action plan to guide the strategic and comprehensive integration of smart cities initiatives within Aurora. Aurora is a growing metropolis that is the third largest city in Colorado, with more than 360,000 residents. The development of Aurora as a smart city will allow the municipality to promote economic sustainability, social equity and inclusion, and environmental sustainability in coordination with residents and major public and private entities that reside in Aurora. The strategic plan—which will address the critical components of a smart city, such as governance, successful pilot implementation, metrics for evaluation, and the integration of best practices and policy frameworks—allows Aurora to lead in innovation and technology to promote Aurora as the place to work, live, and play.
